Hey guys, were slowly coming to an end to this project. Now its time to start the recording process and practice, practice, practice!! Have you ever heard the saying "practice makes perfect?" Well from my experience and from what I have learned is that "perfect practice makes perfect." You can't continuously play a part of a song, get it right once and then stop. You can't just hit that one high note while singing and then stop. You must be repetitive and not stop till you can do it EVERY time. I've learned that you can practice one part of a song 100 times and finally get the measure right, but that doesn't mean you know it. In order to improve you must practice those 100 times, get it right and then play it right another 100 times till you know it. Do not just stop after one lucky run through, be strong and repetitive. If you become frustrated with yourself, take a break, and cool down. Trying to do something while frustrated will not get anything done. It's like getting in a fight with your best friend and having to work on a project with them right afterwards, nothing will be accomplished. You must be able to communicate with your partner, instrument, vocals, etc. Down below I have linked a humorous video about practice. Please enjoy what you do and never give up. Wish me luck guys, see you all next Sunday!

Hey guys, finally posting on a Sunday, one of the best Sundays of them all (in my opinion). Happy Easter!!! This weekend has been longer giving me more time to work with just my music and I. Nothing has really changed to my song, but I am still working on hitting those high and low notes good and in the right tone. Everything is coming along pretty well, I've been able to have my amazing friends and family to listen to it and give me feedback on what I can improve on and what I should try to do better. Sorry for such a short post, nothing really big or exciting has happened. Down below I attached a video of some fun saxophone solos to listen too. Hey guys,
Sorry for my late posts every Sunday. The weather and internet problems permitted me from being able to post. My progress on my solo has been a success. I have lots to still do, but have completed a strong portion of it. As seen in the photo below is my solo I have added onto and may possibly start another one, combine them, have a friend listen and give me feedback, or just start fresh again. I have already been given great feedback from my band friends which has helped me improve my solo more. I have been trying to make time for my genius hour project, but I can only do so much with the little time I have to work on it. Everyday since April 11th I have been working right after school and I get home around 11ish. On my days off I have dance right after school which intervenes as well. During school is my best option and honestly my only option. With this in mind I am trying to evenly distribute the amount of time given to my project and to all of my other subjects as well. Thank you guys for understanding and hopefully I'll be able to get some free time soon. See you all Sunday! (Hopefully) Hey guys,
I know I'ma little late on my blog post. The WiFi at my house stopped working so I was unable to blog. I have good news and bad news to update you guys on. The good news is that I have been able to write a little more, this time on paper instead of the computer. Most of my writing is on the computer so the little ideas I have are not fully complete. I have a few problems with the writing process, but it's slowly all coming together. I have been practicing on my music as well as other pieces of music we are playing in band. I'm very happy with the progress I have made and will continue too. The bad news is that I have decided to make the executive decision and delete my page that shows my progress. I have been unable to find the right time or place to record. I want the best quality for you guys making it harder for me to make time for the recording process and just getting the best place to record. I'm sorry to everyone who wanted to hear me practice and see how everything's coming along. Hopefully this week I will have a lot more accomplished and loads to update you guys on. Thank you for understanding and staying with me through this journey. See you guys next Sunday! Hey guys,
sorry for last weeks update, I was unable to blog last week because I went off grid (camping) with my family for spring break. While being away from electronics and social media I did run into some trouble when composing my song. I tried to put together a melody or two and play out how it would sound. Needless to say, it wasn't very good once I was able to actually listen to it myself. I've learned that I just need to play notes on my own instrument instead of guessing and listening to the computer when writing my solo. I need to listen more to my instrument and my music other than what the computer gives me. With that being said the programs I have been using to help put together my solo are noteflight.com and musescore. These two programs have helped tremendously and has also helped me see how much your able to put within a piece of music. I'm sorry I have been unable to upload on my practice page. I want to have good recordings and getting a practice room is whats prohibiting me from allowing that to happen. I practice at my house, but with that being said I also have my brother and sister practicing as well making it very hard to record without background disruptions. Thank you guys for sticking with me through this and understanding. My range has increased over the break making me feel a lot more confident with my pieces in band and making it easier for me to work when composing my solo. I will update my pages as much as possible this week and hopefully allow you guys to see my progress. I hope you all had a fantastic spring break! See you next Sunday! Hey guys, Sorry for not uploading any videos for my progress. This week was MPA week and I was all caught up with that and school that I was unable to get to a practice room to record. I have been practicing my low and high octaves. Higher octaves are still easier to get out, but I'm getting better at my lower ones. If any of you were wondering how MPA went, wind ensemble played on Tuesday 3-12-13. We were able to get all superiors, also known as ones. We got another plaque and were now starting on our spring music. If I was told correctly there will be one separate concert for jazz and wind together and one for symphonic and concert band. I play in both the jazz and wind band, approximately we will be playing nine pieces, not including jazz band. With that being said I have a lot of stuff to work on and great opportunities to listen to even more styles and methods to composing music. Hopefully this week I will be able to reserve a practice room for myself and getting some recording in and posted. One thing I have been doing is the composing part. I have a few notes/melodies that I have in mind I just need to find a good music website I can use with the help of JImeson. Thank you all for being so supportive on this complicated journey. See you all with another update next Sunday!!
Hey guys, last week I was able to meet with Mr. Jimeson, we talked about my website and my soon to be solo. He helped me figure out a good idea of what I could try to do and made getting supplies way cheaper for me. By the end of this week I'm hoping to have a binder full of blank music sheets, instead of buying an expensive book filled with those sheets, that you can print out for free. I have a few notes and such written down. It's a little complicated right now, especially with MPA coming up on Tuesday. MPA is basically an exam or EOG for band. We've worked very hard on all our pieces that we will be performing in front of three judges. They score each band from a 1-5, your goal is to get a 1 also known as a superior. Once Tuesday passes and all of the stress and everything goes down a little I'll be able to start recording in the practice rooms and adding more to my pages in general. This week my goal is to record some of my low and high ranges to compare a before and after video once this project ends. I'm hoping to also start coming up with my tune and beat of my solo to get a feel of what it could possibly be. Thank you all for the amazing feedback and support! See you next Sunday!
Hey guys, this week has been a rough one to work around and get things done for my project. I have been watching videos to help me and met up with Mr. Jimeson about when we will be meeting and such. I can the higher notes better than the lower notes, but as time progresses I'm able to get my lower notes out better. I could only meet up with Mr. Jimeson once this week, because we had a band concert Tuesday. Every Wednesday and sometimes Mondays will be when Mr. Jimeson and I meet up and start working on my project. This week will be the first week that I will finally be able to truly meet up with him and have a conversation between him and I for awhile. Next week I'm hoping to start composing or at least getting a little idea of what my song will consist of. Wish me luck! Talk to you guys next Sunday! Hey guys, I'm so ready to begin and truly reach the musically inclined side of me. This week has been a roller-coaster, its hard trying to make time for writing music, but I have been able to take some time out of my day to start brainstorming ideas with Mr. Jimeson. I will be planning on hopefully starting the actual writing process in the next two weeks. My focus this week is to learn more about my instrument and music theory. Wish me luck guys! Come back every Sunday to see my progress and please give me any feedback that could be useful, thank you all!
